I RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOed up my first semester in my first year completely largely because i got quite addiceted to GW again and was GvGing near every evening if i wasn't going out, having not done much work in the day as it sounds happens with you.
What i've done that has helped considerably is the following:
1. Think about GW as a reward for working.
2. Time management, this doesn't have to be complex at all. Personally i try to set 9-5 (at least) everday as work/getting things organised etc. This leaves my evening's free to either go out see people or game a little bit if i'm staying in.
3. Work in the library, when your mind drifts think the faster you get everything done the faster i can get out of this mindnumbing hole.
4. If needs really be uninstall for a fortnight or more to get your mind back in focus with the real world and force GW back onto the back benches of your life.
5. I can't comment on what you spend the rest of your freetime doing but make sure you put yourself out there and have plenty of other things to look forward to/do other than gw. Be it societies, going out etc.

Uninstall the game. Seriously. I went through that 2 spring semesters ago and ended up dropping out, losing interest. I had a heavy workload and didn't feel like doing any of the work, GW just added to that. It's happening again but I have a handle on it...homework and studying comes first then I get to play to release that stress.

i don't balance my studies. i've been known to miss entire weeks of class because i was grinding my norn title or vs farming or trying to beat the eotn campaign in hard mode.
i've also been known to miss many meals to guild wars, which explains why i weigh 98 lbs and have hideously pale skin.
my ambition is to dye playing guild wars because i am going to die eventually anyway and why die after 80 miserable years when i could die after 12 fun years? (pic related, i'm 12 and three quarters). plus if i die playing guild wars i can time it so my character dies at the same time i do - talk about epic roleplaying!

sure....
There was a time i tried to max out titles and was chestrunning 2hours each day. Took me about a week to realize that this was just a horrible waste of time. No more title grinding for me! Playing every now and then is much more fun than trying to be "pro" at a game anyway.
Just never desperately try to achieve something at an game!
Since i finished university i don't have much time to play GW anymore.

1. Don't play shitty games with timesinks such as Guild Wars or WOW.
2. Don't study and start scheming to get rich.
3. Drop out, perform illegal hustles and get mad money.
4. Launder money and then retire earlier than everyone else that went through with Uni.

Mine is pretty simple. I bought a cheap laptop that can't handle the game very well, so I can only play on weekends and holidays when I'm home.

When I was a freshman, I played a lot of GW, and needless to say my grades suffered. Since uninstalling, my grades were back up in the A-'s.
I uninstalled a couple weeks ago, and I began again to neglect studying, friends, frat shit, and girlfriend.
I reinstalled a week later, and life got better.
No joke, grades/friends/anything > Guild Wars.
A. It's socially unacceptable
B. It's boring
C. Why play it when you could be getting laid?
